MISSION STATEMENT:

"TO PRESERVE AND HONOR THE LEGACY OF ILLUSTRATOR, JOHN PHILIP FALTER, IN HIS HOMETOWN WHILE PROVIDING INSPIRATION FOR GENERATIONS TO COME."

The John Philip Falter Museum opened in historical downtown Falls City, Nebraska on May 1, 2015 in the lobby of the former Richardson County Bank at 1622 Stone Street.

After graduating from Falls City High School in 1928, John Philip Falter went on to become a world-renowned illustrator. The museum features his Philadelphia studio, a collection of his 129 “Saturday Evening Post” magazine covers, original World War II paintings, book illustrations, magazine ads, a 30-minute documentary produced by Nebraska Educational Television, works on loan from local collectors, and a gift shop with a variety of items such as historical prints, jigsaw puzzles, note cards, and a coffee table book containing all of his Post covers.

Click below to view all 129 SEP covers.

SEVERAL ITEMS FROM FALTER’S PHILADELPHIA STUDIO ARE ON LOAN FROM THE NEBRASKA HISTORY MUSEUM AND HIS SATURDAY EVENING POST COVERS ARE ON DISPLAY, ARRANGED BY THE SEASON THEY WERE ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED.

Our jigsaw puzzle, porcelain Christmas ornaments, note cards, and prints are now available in Falls City at Wolfe’s Printing, Heartland Fine Arts, and Heritage Falls Candles & Gifts, as well as at the gift shops in the Nebraska State Historical Society Museum and the Nebraska State Capitol in downtown Lincoln.

Since we opened our museum doors in 2015, we have hosted many events and celebrations. We have been twice-selected (2016, 2019) for Nebraska Tourism’s popular, “Passport Program,” which has helped the museum gain popularity and resulted in thousands of visitors from all over the United States and even several countries abroad. In late 2019, Falls City was proclaimed, "City of Art," the first community in the State of Nebraska to be given this title, one that gives us an exciting new focus for the new decade.

We encourage you to join the vast and supportive community of “Falter Fans” by clicking the “Falter Fans Email” button above or you can click HERE to follow us on Facebook. We are continually grateful for all the continued support and thank you for spending a little bit of your time with us.

We’re incredibly grateful to our docents for the time, energy, and enthusiasm they bring to the John Philip Falter Museum. Their willingness to share stories and guide visitors makes each experience more engaging and memorable. Simply put, the museum wouldn’t be possible without their dedication.
